Balance Test

Vestibular Treatment

Vestibular Treatment focuses on restoring balance, reducing dizziness, and improving stability in patients experiencing vestibular dysfunction after injuries such as MVAs, slips and falls, or concussions. Delivered by physiotherapists and rehabilitation specialists trained in vestibular therapy, sessions are customized to each patient's specific symptoms, medical history, and recovery goals.

This therapy helps patients regain confidence in movement, reduce fall risk, and support overall neurological recovery.

What does Vestibular Treatment address?

Vestibular rehabilitation is beneficial for patients with:

  • Dizziness, vertigo, or spinning sensations,

  • Balance problems and frequent falls,

  • Nausea or motion sensitivity,

  • Headaches or neck pain linked to vestibular dysfunction,

  • Difficulty focusing or blurred vision with movement,

  • Post-concussion symptoms and vestibular migraine,

  • General disorientation and unsteadiness after trauma.

Key aspects of Vestibular Treatment

Vestibular treatment sessions typically include:

  • Comprehensive vestibular and balance assessment,

  • Gaze stabilization and eye–head coordination exercises,

  • Balance and gait training to reduce fall risk,

  • Habituation exercises to decrease sensitivity to movement,

  • Neck and postural retraining to relieve associated pain,

  • Education on self-management strategies and pacing daily activities,

  • Coordination with physiotherapists, neurologists, and mental health professionals when needed.

A vestibular therapy session begins with a detailed review of symptoms, medical history, and balance testing. The therapist identifies the source of dizziness and designs a personalized exercise plan. Treatment may include gentle head and body movements, visual focus training, and balance retraining tasks. Patients are guided through exercises and given tailored home programs to reinforce progress. Progress is monitored over time and adjusted as recovery continues.
