Temporomandibular Joint Assessment
A Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Assessment evaluates the function and structure of the jaw joint, surrounding muscles, and associated symptoms. This assessment is typically conducted by a dentist, physiotherapist, or medical specialist trained in TMJ disorders.

The assessment includes a detailed history of jaw pain, clicking, or limited movement, followed by a physical exam to assess joint alignment, range of motion, muscle tenderness, and bite function.
When is a TMJ Assessment needed?
This assessment is recommended for individuals who:
-
Experience jaw pain, locking, or clicking,
-
Have difficulty chewing, talking, or opening the mouth fully,
-
Report facial pain, headaches, or ear discomfort,
-
Have sustained head, neck, or facial trauma after an accident,
-
Have been referred for assessment of chronic facial or neck pain.
