Personal Support Worker
Personal Support Worker (PSW) care provides hands-on, compassionate assistance to help patients manage daily living needs in the comfort of their own home. PSWs support clients recovering from an accident, illness, or age-related challenges by assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, and household activities. Their role is essential in maintaining dignity, independence, and safety for clients who may not be able to fully care for themselves.

PSW services are often integrated into rehabilitation and medical care plans, working alongside nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. By ensuring day-to-day needs are met, PSWs help patients focus on recovery while easing the burden on family caregivers.
When does a patient need PSW?
Many patients face challenges with daily tasks after an injury, illness, or major life change. PSW care may be needed when clients experience:
-
Mobility issues: Difficulty walking, transferring from bed to chair, or using stairs safely.
-
Personal care needs: Challenges with bathing, dressing, grooming, or toileting independently.
-
Health and safety risks: Risk of falls, medication errors, or inability to maintain a clean living space.
-
Fatigue or pain: Difficulty completing daily routines due to physical discomfort.
-
Family strain: When caregivers cannot meet all of the client’s care needs on their own.
